What I Actually Do
You Should is a one-person consulting practice. I sit down with NZ business owners, look at the whole business across six operational lenses, and tell you the three things that, if you fixed them, would change the trajectory the most.
That's it. No franchise, no team of junior consultants, no off-the-shelf playbook. The work is what it sounds like: someone with fresh eyes, sitting with you, looking honestly at what's there.
The Six Lenses
Most business problems get diagnosed inside one silo. Your accountant looks at the numbers. A marketing agency looks at your marketing. An HR consultant looks at the team. Each one gives you a real answer, but it's their answer to their slice of the business.
The Six Lenses framework I use looks at the business as one connected system:
- Brand & Design — whether the way the business presents is filtering customers in or out.
- Marketing & Reach — where your customers actually come from, and what cheap doors haven't been opened.
- Team & Roles — whether the right people are doing the right work, including you.
- Revenue vs Potential — the gap between what you bill and what the work is actually worth.
- Procurement & Outgoings — what's leaving the business that shouldn't be.
- Systems & Operations — the friction inside the day that's burning hours nobody invoices for.
The biggest wins almost always sit between the lenses, in the gaps no specialist is looking at. That's where I do the work.
Who I Work With
NZ business owners turning over roughly $100k to $10m+. Trades, hospitality, retail, professional services, light manufacturing, e-commerce. Sole operators through to teams of 30 or so.
The common thread isn't size or industry. It's an owner who knows something needs to change, has tried a few things, and wants a structured set of eyes on the whole picture before deciding what to do next.
How I Work
It starts with a free 60-minute walkthrough. You show me the business, I ask questions, and by the end I'll have identified the three biggest opportunities I can see. Most owners get real value from that session alone, with no obligation to do anything else.
If you want to keep going, there are two further paths. The Deep Look is a structured review across all six lenses with a written transformation plan. The Transformation is ongoing support to actually implement the plan, week by week, until the changes stick.
The Philosophy
Most business owners who feel stuck assume the problem is them. It usually isn't. It's almost always structural — pricing that hasn't moved, a team set up for a smaller business, systems that were fine at $500k and aren't at $1.5m. Structural problems have structural solutions. The job is to find them and fix them in the right order.
What I won't do is sell you software you don't need, push you toward a six-figure engagement when a $300 fix solves the problem, or tell you everything is great when it isn't. Honesty is the whole point of bringing in a fresh set of eyes.
